City Community Trust has supported families at risk of going hungry over half term through the distribution of free food gift packs donated by rediscover church.
Young people attending CITY Community Trust’s Premier League Kicks sessions in Beacon Heath, Exwick, Merrivale and Wonford were offered the packs.
And more than 25 packages - which contained dozens of items - including cereal, pasta and tinned fruit and vegetables, were given out to attendees aged between eight and 18, during the weeks leading up to half term. All the packages contained enough for a family of four.
Pete Eveleigh, social inclusion officer at CITY Community Trust, said: ‘There is rightly a great deal of attention in the media at the moment about this issue. Thanks to the donation from Rediscover Church we have been able to distribute food gift packs to the families of attendees of our Premier League Kicks programme and support people directly when then most need us.
‘It’s important we take a holistic approach to our programmes and support participants in the most appropriate ways, and we are pleased to be able to step in and ease the pressure for families during this difficult time, through the provision of food parcels.’
Premier League Kicks gives young people access to free football sessions, sports sessions and workshops, providing them with opportunities, support and pathways to achieve their full potential. It sees club community staff working closely with young people and authorities in their local area to create stronger, safer and more inclusive communities. It also engages young people in positive activities through their passion for football, whilst also addressing topics covering everything from equality and inclusion to youth violence and knife crime.
City Community Trust has been running Premier League Kicks sessions for the last four years and has encouraged hundreds of participants to take part in positive activity. Sessions take place in Exwick, Wonford, Merrivale and Cranbrook.
