IT HAS BEEN A CHALLENGING TIME FOR THE COMMUNITY WORKING GROUP. A NEW TEAM WAS PUT TOGETHER FOLLOWING THE TRUST BOARD ELECTIONS IN NOVEMBER 2020 BUT FURTHER RESTRICTIONS AND LOCKDOWNS BROUGHT IN TO COMBAT THE THREAT OF COVID 19 MEANT THAT SEVERAL PLANS AND IDEAS HAD TO BE PUT ON HOLD.
However, there has been some success for the group. A conversation between Doug Gillard and Steve Chown from Exeter Community Initiatives lead to the Secret Santa campaign that raised in excess of Two Thousand Pounds. This money was used to purchase vouchers that were given to families across the city to help make their Christmas a little better.
The Trust partnership with Exeter Community Initiatives was launched in August 2020 but, again due to Covid 19, the partnership has not been able to get anywhere near reaching its full potential. There is a genuine desire from both the Trust and Exeter Community Initiatives to come together and make a real difference to the lives of individuals, families and groups in and around the city and the local area.
The group has several plans and ideas that will take shape over the coming months as we follow the government's roadmap towards normality. The first will be the relaunch of Cycle for City, originally the brainchild of the Trust's Vice Chairman Mark Cordell. This will coincide with National Bike Week at the end of May and will be an opportunity for cyclists of all ages and experience to get involved. Exciting times are just around the corner.
